Product detailed description

Remote control tank model (RC model), complete set with accessories.

The RC model of a German self-propelled gun - tank destroyer from the period of World War II with an electric drive faithfully simulates most of the functions of a real tank. It features a realistic undercarriage with functional tracks, drive, travel and tension wheels that allow it to drive forward, backward and turn. Lowering and raising the barrel is also remotely controlled. The simulation is complemented by a sound module imitating the sound of the engine and a smoke generator. The model has metal tracks, metal undercarriage tub, metal wheels and undercarriage parts. Airbrush sprayed surface with realistic patina. Lots of metal parts, metal accessories.

scale: 1/16
length: 630 mm
width: 230 mm
height: 200 mm
motor: 8500 U/min
weight: approx. 6.5 kg (weight with accessories and wooden transport box approx. 12 kg)
gearboxes with zinc alloy metal wheels

A 2.4 GHz transmitter is used to control the model, the safe range of the RC set is approx. 50 m.

The package contains:

- finished model
- transmitter
- drive battery 1700mAh/7.2V
- mains charger 7.2V-400mA
- a bottle of smoke liquid

- small surface details and stickers

Need to purchase: AA batteries for the transmitter.

WARNING! This RC tank is not a toy, but a more sophisticated, functional model that behaves very much like a real tank. Due to its realistic parameters, if it is not correctly assembled and operated correctly, it can cause you injury, or injure the viewer, or damage property. If you use the model in the BB version (fires 6mm bullets), always follow the basic safety rules. Never leave the model unattended in the presence of children under 14 years of age. If you unlock the firing mechanism, always wear safety glasses, as do any spectators. A fired bullet can ricochet and damage your eyesight! Never aim or shoot at people or animals! Check the target area before firing. Never look (or a spectator) into the barrel of a tank with the firing mechanism unlocked, even if you think the magazine is empty. The responsibility for damages and injuries is borne by the user of the model, not the manufacturer, nor the seller! The model is intended for driving indoors or outdoors on a solid dry surface, under no circumstances can it be driven in water, snow, puddles, mud, sand, tall grass, on public roads and other places (e.g. parking lots ) with car operation. High "hairy" carpets are also unsuitable surfaces. This model requires regular maintenance and is intended for modelers over 14 years of age.

Warning - good advice: The control electronics of the MFU RX-18 (Heng Long) and its mutations (Torro, Taigen, Amewi, Pelikán and others) have "diverse" quality and a short lifespan. For more advanced and demanding modelers/users, we recommend its complete replacement with MFU Elmod. If you are interested, we will advise you on everything and carry out the exchange. Although the replacement costs about 200 €, the tank model will get a radical improvement in all its features!

Our test - experience with MFU RX-18 electronics: All RC tanks manufactured by the Chinese company Heng Long and packed in Torro, Amewi, Pelikán, or other packages are equipped as standard with the RX-18 multifunctional unit, which has an integrated receiver, sound module and a mix-module ensuring the movement of the model. Whether it is the most basic version of the all-plastic tank model, or a tuning version with added metal parts, the product's weakness is its electronics. As part of their quality control, Torro puts supposedly higher quality RX-18s in the tanks and adds a cooling fan to the motherboard, but our experience is that it's still just generic Chinese electronics. Although it provides proportional control of the driving functions of the model, the sound module has also partially improved over the years, but the result is not satisfactory. The sounds of the engine, shots, or tank mechanisms are not very realistic and suitable for a complete beginner. The imitation of a skid when firing from a cannon is ridiculous (this applies mainly to the BB version of the model), when the entire tank jerks backwards when fired, which is completely unrealistic. It has improved slightly in the newer versions of the RX-18, but overall there is nothing to rave about. But the worst thing is still the high percentage of defectiveness of these Chinese electronics, regardless of the brand of the distributor it is packaged under.
Our recommendation is not to expect much from tank models equipped with the RX-18 and its mutations. If you are buying the model as a toy for a child, then it is sufficient, you just have to expect that sooner or later the electronics will break.
If you are among the more demanding modellers or fans of tank technology, we recommend completely replacing the Chinese electronics with the German Elmod Fusion ECO/PRO using the Carson Reflex 6k transmitter. With this German electronics, you will get a model on a whole new level, and get to know the world of realistic tank models.

Our test Jagdtiger with metal underbody, metal tuning and tracks (Torro): The German company Torro specializes in small series production of more advanced tank models. In this case, it is a good-looking model with extensive tuning, at least as regards the entire lower part of the tank and especially the chassis. The full metal tub significantly increases the value of the model, improves all driving characteristics and increases the weight of the model accordingly, so it moves realistically. However, what surprised me and slightly disappointed me is that the weakness of this model is the gearboxes. Although the gears are metal, they are cast from zinc alloy, so they have a relatively short lifespan. Metal belts and metal tuning significantly increase the total weight of the model and, of course, put more strain on the gearboxes. Alloy gears wear out quickly and over time start to skip or stop working altogether. The best solution is to replace the gears with steel milled ones, or even the whole gearboxes, preferably with the Waltersons brand, which you can also find in our e-shop. Torro also took care of a nicer finish, including patina. From my point of view as an experienced modeler, this is a decently done tuning of the hardware part of the model, so the modeler just adds the really last details at his discretion. Due to the use of 2.4GHz RC kit, this is an absolutely perfect model for a beginner. However, I would like to note that for the advanced modeller, this model has one more major weakness. That's his electronics. Although Torro replaces the super poor original MFU RX-18 Heng Long with a higher quality product (the "better" RX-18), the integrated sound module completely degrades this model. A kind of universal engine sound, as well as imitations of the sounds of shots or tank mechanisms, are probably the same in all types that Heng Long produces, and Torro unfortunately does not change that. The smoke module is very noisy and if the speaker of the sound module is not turned up to full, the sound of the smoke generator will drown out the sound of the engine. I personally do not like the smoke generator producing white "cigarette" smoke at all. But the audience likes it, so what. However, I prefer to turn off the smoke module in my tanks, or not have it at all. As I mentioned, the general handling and overall appearance of this model is quite good. However, what bothers me a lot is the way of imitating the slip when fired from a cannon (this applies mainly to the BB version of the model). When shot, the whole tank jerks back, which is completely unrealistic. To sum it all up, this model deserves a better sound module and I would definitely replace it. Visually, it is a very successful piece, attractive and literally beautiful. Anyway, sooner or later I would rebuild it to a higher modeler standard by stripping it of the awful Chinese electronics and equipping it with a quality Elmod MFU. After such modification, it is a very interesting model that will interest the audience.
