Explanation
Classic (analog) control allows you to control only one locomotive at a time. If you put two locomotives on a track, they will both move at the same time, in the same direction and at approximately the same speed.
Digital control makes it possible to control several locomotives at the same time through a single controller, while each of them on the same track can go at a different speed and in a different direction (or even stop).
Connecting the track
Connect the individual parts of the track to each other with slight pressure so that the opposite pieces of tracks are inserted into the grooves in the couplings. Do not use force, the rails may bend and warp. After assembling the track, choose a suitable straight section where you want to connect the electrical supply. Insert the connector block into the windows between the rail and sleepers (only on a straight section) so that its copper contacts touch well from below the rails. Make sure that no grease or other dirt gets between the contacts. Insert the ends of the cables from the control unit into the connector block by first pressing one button, which opens a hole for inserting one wire (pole) of the cable. Insert the end of the wire and release the button to secure it in the hole. Repeat the procedure with the second wire (pole). Insert the transformer connector into the control unit from below and insert the cable into the groove in the desired direction. Finally, insert the plug of the transformer cable into the electrical outlet. The circuit is thus connected and the track ready for use.
Uncoupling the track
Proceed in exactly the opposite order to joining the track. FIRST(!) disconnect the transformer from the mains by pulling out the plug. Then disconnect all the electrical connections and finally the individual parts of the track.
Track cleaning
Metal tracks must be protected from corrosion and pollution. Otherwise, their conductive properties will deteriorate and the train will not run smoothly, or it will not work at all. We recommend occasionally cleaning the track surface with a special cleaning agent, never with water or oil. Ideal for cleaning the tracks is the use of a special cleaning wagon or the cleaning block PIKO 55281 (9555281). After finishing use and disassembling the track, we recommend putting the parts back in the original box and storing them in a dry and cool place.
Driving a locomotive
Be sure to check the track before using the locomotive
to make sure it is clean and properly connected. Place the locomotive on the track and check the correct position of all wheels. Turn the dial slowly and set the speed you want the locomotive to go. If the locomotive does not move after turning the controller, or does not run smoothly, check whether it is correctly placed on the tracks, whether all track parts are connected correctly, whether there is a short circuit somewhere.
Locomotive maintenance
The locomotive is a delicate electromechanical device, requiring careful handling and regular maintenance. Protect it from impacts, moisture and dust. For basic maintenance, it is enough to drop fine machine oil on the drive gears (only a small amount). Before greasing, protect the locomotive wheels so that there is good electrical contact between the wheel rim and the track. If hair or hair from the carpet gets caught on the axle of the wheels, it is necessary to carefully remove them so that the wheels can rotate freely without increased resistance.
Locomotive service life
The service life of moving parts and the engine is limited by the intensity of operation and the conditions of use. Cardan shafts, gear teeth and carbons on the electric motor are subject to natural wear caused by operation. Their service life can be significantly extended by regular lubrication and cleaning. It must be taken into account that a locomotive that runs several hours a day will wear out sooner than a locomotive that is only used occasionally.
Warning
This model train set is not a toy suitable for children under the age of 14! The locomotive, wagons and tracks are detailed, fragile and require careful handling. Some parts have sharp edges and corners that could cause injury to a child if used carelessly without adult supervision. Small parts could be swallowed by a small child! The transformer is an electrical device and should be inspected before each use for signs of surface damage or damage to the power cord. In case of doubt, or in case of damage, it should not be used until it has been checked and repaired by an expert. It is intended for indoor use only! Only use the supplied transformer, always under adult supervision and unplug it whenever the track is not in use. A transformer is not a toy. As with any electrical device, there is a risk of electric shock if handled incorrectly. The transformer should be disconnected from the electrical network even when cleaning the track.
